Survey Rates
New rates for the 2009 season
- Pre-purchase Survey @ $16 per foot LOA* for powerboats, $300 minimum. Includes SeaTrial.
This applies for vessels <21 feet LOA. Powerboats 21 to 39 feet with more than one propulsion system, generators, shore power, LP or CNG, systems like air
conditioning, refrigeration, more than one helm, etc., @ $18 per foot LOA. Vessels >39 feet @ $20 per foot LOA.
Multi-hulls add $1 per foot each hull. Sailboats add $1 per foot. (Surveys of large, complex vessels requiring more than 1 day on board are charged per foot cost plus $375.00 for
each additional 1/2 day necessary to complete on the on-board survey. Work day is 8 hours including breaks).
Condition and Valuation (Insurance Survey), @ $12 per foot LOA up to 21’ ($250 minimum). $14 per foot LOA 21’ to 35’. Larger vessels $16 per foot LOA
-Multihulls- add $1 per foot each hull. -Sailboats- add $1 per foot. (Travel expenses apply – see below).
Valuation (only) (Same as Insurance Condition and Valuation Survey).
In-Water Surveys (Above Waterline) deduct $1.00 per foot LOA from rates given above.
Consultation, pre-commissioning surveys, return surveys, magna-flux testing, sea trials, galvanic/stray current testing, and/or bonding system analysis. $150 for the
first hour, then $75/hour. (Travel expenses apply).
Open inspection of sails is an additional at $75.00 per hour and I will need assistance. (Cursory from deck level Inspection of rigging and a sail inventory is
included at no additional cost).
Outboard or inboard engine survey (beyond normal observations) includes engine startup, warm-up, then cylinder compression test, transmission or lower unit
operation and oil check. $150 per engine. (Engine start, warm-up and oil sample analysis is $50.00 per engine). Boat owner or representative must be present to
start engine(s). (Travel expenses apply if not part of vessel survey – see below).
Travel expenses are not charged if job is within 50 miles of Barnstable, MA or Portland, ME and the survey value > $400.00. Island surveys will be charged air or
ferry transportation costs and island taxi if necessary, but not travel time. Travel beyond the first 50 miles each way are billed at $0.55/mile. Travel expenses will be
negotiated before survey.
Printed Report is optional. Surveys are posted on the TMS website upon completion. Printed Pre-purchase Survey reports are in a handsome bound report cover,
using high definition color printing utilizing both sides of high quality HP® Presentation Paper. $20 to cover printing and shipping costs.
Classic boats, boats older than 20 years, commercial or charter boats, wooden boats: Charges may vary relative to the condition of the vessel and/or extra
work required. Costs to be agreed upon prior to survey or when on site.
Pre-commissioning survey. Get your boat ready for the season. Make sure your boat is shipshape before you launch. (See pricing for "Consultation" above).
• LOA refers to Length-overall as listed by BUC® Research, manufacturer or other reference source.
• Turnstone Marine Survey reserves the right to assess additional hourly rate surcharges if the survey process is slowed by circumstances beyond the control of the surveyor. Such as a
vessel not properly prepared for survey as per instructions, third party contractors not hired by TMS, vessel equipment located elsewhere, a vessel in poor condition, etc.
• Customers will receive an invoice for services rendered at or before the survey. Payment in full must be received before the report is released. You may provide either Master Card or
Visa information by phone for assurance or payment. Your card will not be charged as long as payment by check or cash is received in a reasonable time frame. For your protection do not
send credit card information by FAX or email. This information should be given by phone to TMS (Peter Spang) only.
